Advanced practice nursing is the heart of health reforms and restructuring. APN's are clinically effective and safe in caring for the patients and positively influence patient health outcomes and decreases in health cost (Roux-Dubois, & Perron, 2016). APN's are faced with a different scope of practice in various states across the nation, access to health care, patient safety, economic benefits, and professional autonomy; this explains why the integration of APN across the health setting differs (Roux-Dubois, & Perron, 2016). Response: My career has taken a lot of different turns over the years one of my areas of specialty was nursing management and administration. I found that I enjoyed the counseling and supportive aspect of administration more than I enjoyed the numbers. I had a BSN in nursing and chose to continue with nursing since I had a good foundation already. Advance Nursing Professional Role Paper

Interviewer: What are some of the challenges the profession is facing and how have you addressed them?
Response: Balancing the workload is one of the major challenges in nursing and particular practitioners. With the increasing responsibility and expanded role, there seems to be an expectation of meaning in the healthcare team to expect best practice nurses to function as the nurse practitioners, social worker, therapist, insurance liaison, etc. As it has practitioners, one has to be careful to keep the proper professional boundaries and not take on responsibilities that are not under your jurisdiction. I have addressed this challenge by inserting that there is clarity in the team about the role of the advanced practice nurse. Advance Nursing Professional Role Paper

New psychiatric medications and novel ways of describing are still evolving. As the science of understanding behavior, the brain and spiritual aspects of a person expands, new concepts must be incorporated into one’s practice. Advance Nursing Professional Role Paper

Response: the shortage of skilled advanced practice nurses is a major concern in the United States as we speak. There’s also a shortage of psychiatrists due to many new doctors choosing to pursue specialties or primary care practice. There are many parts of the country where there is no psychiatric provider. I am vision the role of the events practice nurse in mental health expanding witnessed practitioners having more admitting privileges as well as the right of treating patients in the hospital for acute psychiatric illnesses. The role of events practice nurse is evolving, and practitioners are increasingly being reimbursed directly by insurance companies. Maryland, for example, is a state that allows advanced practice nurses to practice independently. This enables us to start our practice and work in an independent capacity in the state. Advanced practice nurses can bill the insurance company directly for payment. Advance Nursing Professional Role Paper
Interviewer: How do you feel about the pros and cons of the DNP as a terminal degree for the practice nurse?
Response: As a DNP myself, I’m very enthusiastic and optimistic about the DNP as a terminal degree for nurse practitioners who want to function in a practical clinical role. I think that the Ph.D. degree is crucial for nurses or nurse practitioners who wish to pursue academic administration however many practitioners prefer the DNP due to lack of interest in pursuing nursing academics administration. I think that a lot of debate among nurses regarding the DNP versus Ph.D. perpetuates some of the ambiguity that other professions and patient’s deal with regarding nurses without degrees. The DNP has been very beneficial to me professional and academic roles. Advance Nursing Professional Role Paper
