Chapter 2 is a methods section. The method section explains the methods and procedures used in a research study or experiment. You should provide detailed information about the research design, participants, equipment/instruments, materials, variables, and actions that will be taken by the participants. This section also consists of a data analysis section (what types of statistical tests will you use to answer your research questions). The method section should provide enough information to allow other researchers to replicate your experiment or study. Methods Section of Health Studies Paper over Autism Essay

Measures

During the yearlong program study, three evaluations were conducted to evaluate the effects of the Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention: Applied Behavioral Analysis on the young subject.

1. The first assessment/evaluation was conducted at the beginning of the study before therapy was introduced: -Expressive language skills, communication, surrounding awareness, receptiveness to noise, and attention were all tested.

2. At the halfway mark through the program each category was tested again for data purposes.

3. At the end of the yearlong therapy study each category was tested for the third time completing the research study.

Procedure

Subject was implemented into a yearlong home-based program that entailed Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention: Applied Behavioral Analysis. Five days a week, subject spent three hours with ABA certified professionals and parents. ABA professional guided parents to implement ABA therapy. ABA professional worked with subject and parents on all five categories from evaluation: Expressive language skills, communication, surrounding awareness, receptiveness to noise, and attention. Design

The Precede/Proceed model will be used as the planning model for program development. This model consists of 9 phases divided into two sections: Precede and Proceed. The first 5 phases of the Precede section are: 1) Social Assessment, 2) Epidemiological assessment, 3) behavioral and environmental assessment, 4) educational and ecological assessment, and 5) administrative policy assessment. The remaining 4 phases make up the Proceed section of the model are: 6) implementation of the program, 7) process evaluation, 8) impact evaluation and 9) outcome evaluation. The Precede/Proceed model will be applied to the Fit Club program to first establish a needs assessment based on environmental, social, and administrative factors, then to implement the program, evaluate the implementation process, the impact, and the overall outcome of the program based on completion of goals and objectives. Priority Population

The Fit Club program aims to increase participation across all departments in a call center based worksite located in Paragould, Arkansas. The Population is made up of 250 employees ranging in age from 18-65 years old. The population is predominately female (70%), Caucasian (95%), and in the age category of 35-55 years old (60%). The majority (76%) of the employee population is sedentary, and overweight or obese, and suffering from at least one form of chronic illness. Currently, only 10% of the workforce currently participates in onsite wellness programming. According to company data from 2014, Quest diagnostics screenings, 70% of the workforce was considered overweight, and 40% of the workforce was considered obese by the standard BMI scale. Guiding Theory

The Social Coginitive Theory (SCT) will guide the development of this program. Specific strategies will be developed to address the following SCT constructs: education, social support, and self-efficacy for physical activity. The Social Cognitive Theory is an interpersonal theory that focuses on the dynamic interaction between personal factors, behavior, and environmental factors. The Fit Club intervention program will be developed to address these constructs through on-site group exercise classes and health education based lunch and learns. Personal factors will be addressed through education, behavior will be modified as a result of available incentives, and the environment will be modified through the availability of on-site group exercise sessions. Program Strategic Plan

Program Overview

According to ACSM’s Guidelines Exercise Testing and Prescription, the average adult should accumulate 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity exercise; however, when working with a sedentary and predominately obese population 90 minutes of exercise is a realistic starting point. Several clinical trials and epidemiological studies have shown that there is a dose-response relationship between the volume of exercise, or the total amount of exercise a person performs calculated by the duration and intensity in cardiovascular exercise or by the amount of weight lifted and number of sets and reps performed in strength training sessions, and positive health outcomes (American College of Sports Medicine, 2014). Methods Section of Health Studies Paper over Autism Essay. Based on this principle one of the program components is completing three separate 30 minute bouts of exercise per week. Group exercise sessions will be offered a minimum of two times per day during the work day to provide an opportunity for completion of the exercise sessions in a social environment. In addition to meeting the minimum requirement of exercise sessions each week, participants will have the opportunity to earn points toward incentive prizes by participating in various health challenges, attending lunch and learns, and participating in company health screenings.  Personal training sessions and “on your own” workouts will be provided as an alternative for individuals who do not feel comfortable exercising in a group setting. All participants who complete 3 exercise sessions per week in the first month of the program will receive a Fit Club T-Shirt. Each month, all participants who meet the minimum number of sessions each week and earn 75% of the available points by participating in 75% of the additional monthly activities will be entered into a drawing for prizes valued at $25. Each quarter all participants who have adhered to the program by completing three exercise sessions per week and earning 75% of the available points will be entered into a drawing for a higher, $75 value prize. Annually, awards will be given for the most improved individual in weight-loss or lifestyle change, and the participant who met the minimum exercise requirements and earned the highest total number of points will be awarded a “Grand Prize”, and will receive the title of Most Valuable Participant (MVP). Objectives

-Reduce Prevalence of Obesity incidence in biometric screening data from 40% to 30% in participants enrolled in the program

-Reduce the incidence of chronic illness incidence in biometric screening data (hypertension, type II diabetes, etc.) by 10% in participants enrolled in the program.

Objectives

-Reduce insurance expenditures related to chronic illness by 10%

-Reduce the number of unscheduled absences due to illness by 10%

Strategy

In order to identify and evaluate the issues that affect the quality of life of the workforce population, a needs assessment survey will be constructed and distributed to all employees in all departments through email communication. An individual from each department will be selected to serve on a wellness committee to work with the onsite wellness coordinator to provide a better understanding of the beliefs, attitudes, and resources of each respective department. A town hall style meeting will be held to discuss general issues, concerns, and ideas for the on-site wellness program. Methods Section of Health Studies Paper over Autism Essay

Program Development

An overall unit plan and 6 detailed session plans will be developed to outline the available points to be earned each month with corresponding activities, exercise sessions, and lunch and learns. This will consist of group exercise sessions led by the program coordinator. The sessions will consist of various exercise formats and will be provided Monday through Friday at 10:00am and 5:30pm. Methods Section of Health Studies Paper over Autism Essay. Classes included will include Turbo Kick Live, PiYo Live, and ZUMBA. In addition to detailed session plans outlining the six “lunch and learn” educational opportunities, a class description, sample content and choreography of each class will be provided, a detailed group exercise schedule will be developed, and group exercise logs with monthly activities and points will also be developed. Implementation Plan. A detailed timeline and implementation plan will be developed and will outline all phases of the program. Methods Section of Health Studies Paper over Autism Essay

Evaluation Plan Development. A detailed evaluation plan will be developed using pre and post assessments, will utilize Quest Biometric health screening data, insurance and attendance data provided by the Human Resources department, and will serve to document program processes and outcomes. Process evaluation will be performed by examining the various components of the program and tracking participation, to determine if the program was carried out as it was initially intended.
