COURSE DESCRIPTION
The nurses' role in the individual patient's experience of heath is addressed in this course. Factors contributing to people's definition and understanding of health and their health practices are examined within an ecological framework. The dynamic partnership between nurse and patient will be explored. A strong emphasis will be placed on health assessment, advocacy, and education for health promotion, risk reduction, and disease prevention across the lifespan. COURSE OBJECTIVES

Successful completion of NURS.4512 requires successful completion of both the clinical and theoretical components of the course.

The clinical component consists of two parts: The clinical/project process, the individual seminar application assignments. In order to pass the clinical component a student must receive a pass grade on both components:

  1. The clinical process and completion is graded pass/fail and is evaluated on the basis of the written clinical objectives. In order to pass the clinical component a student must earn a pass grade on all clinical objectives and clinical participation. If a student fails in either of these a grade of F in the course (regardless of the theory grade) will be given.   2. The Seminar application assignments are mandatory and are graded.
    They are evaluated on a participatory/quality of work basis. Seminar/discussion board theory are evaluated pass/fail. Due to the nature of the seminar, work turned in past due date will not be accepted late and will be given an F.

If a student fails the clinical component, a grade of F in the course, (regardless of the grade in theory) will be given.
